On April 19, the space shuttle Discovery was welcomed and placed on display at the Air and Space Museum near Dulles airport. The shuttle Enterprise had been housed there for several years, but with the end of the program, Enterprise would go to New York, and Discovery would be in Washington.
We fought through some traffic on the way down on Thursday morning, but we arrived well before the ceremony. The weather was perfect for this historic event that included two shuttles parked nose to nose, shuttle commanders from Discovery's 39 missions into space, and the talk by John Glenn, certainly one of our modern heroes.
An experience not to be forgotten.
