images of our life
Saturday was going to be a busy day in Arlington. Owen had two soccer games and a baseball game scheduled. Louisa was in the middle of a week-long celebration of her seventh birthday. And it seemed like a very long time since we had seen the whole family.
We drove down in the morning and arrived at an incredible Arlington Park where the kides play soccer on beautiful artificial turf fields.
Courtney walked up carrying Cara as we approached the fields and we saw that Cara’s eye was not only a dark, dark purple, it was swollen completely shut. Courtney told us the story: Cara was playing when a dog ran by her and the dog’s leash swept Cara’s legs out from beneath her causing her to fall on her forehead. Immediate trip to urgent care and several scary hours later, the doctors had determined that Cara had a hairline skull fracture, a mild concussion, and some severe swelling and bruising around her eye. They thought, though, that there was nothing that she wouldn’t recover from fairly quickly. By mid-week, her condition was vastly improved and everyone, especially Dan and Courtney was grateful that Cara was healing so rapidly. Even on Saturday, though, Cara was smiling and a joy to be with.
Because of a wet field, one of Owen’s soccer games was cancelled which gave us the opportunity to go to a playground, have Little League pictures taken, and go to the batting cages before the baseball game.
After a birthday celebration at home with Louisa, it was time for us to leave but what a great day we had.
