images of our life
We went to see a collection of over 100 impressionist paintings, from museums all over the world, that is on view at the Philadelphia Museum of Art this summer. The exhibit began in Paris, then London, and its last stop is Philadelphia.
The collection is based on the work of a Parisian named Paul Durand-Ruel, an art collector and dealer, who is credited with supporting, encouraging, and displaying the work of impressionist artists in spite of criticism and financial losses for most of his life.
Monet once said of Durand-Ruel that, “We would have died of hunger without him, all we Impressionists. We owe him everything.”
We were hungry, then, and decided that nothing would go with a morning of beautiful art than a traditional Philly cheese steak at Pat’s or Geno’s, two restaurants located across the street from one another, who have been arguing for 40 years about who makes the best cheese steaks. This time we had Geno’s and they were delicious. Next time it’s Pat’s turn.
